The CLACSO-CROP Programme

The CLACSO-CROP Programme

The CLACSO-CROP Programme on Poverty Research was based on a collaboration with the Latin American Council of Social Sciences (CLACSO), it was initiated in 2002 and ended in 2012.

This project aimed to facilitate research on poverty in Latin America and capacitate researchers in the region to enhance the quality of such research. Other objectives were: informing regional poverty reduction policy, maintaining a regional network of researchers, and connecting regional researchers to international scientific networks

The goal of the CLACSO-CROP Programme was to support high quality and independent social research on poverty issues, creating and facilitating an arena for debating poverty issues, and promoting research contributions to the eradication of poverty in Latin American and the Caribbean.

A primary focus of the programme was to enhance research capacity and quality by providing junior and senior scholars in the region an opportunity to carry out social research on poverty-related issues. The programme also aimed to strengthen the regional perspective of poverty-related research by promoting comparative and collaborative cross-national research with a particular focus on the less developed countries and areas in the region.

The programme achieved this by providing an organisational setting to facilitate the entrance of junior scholars into poverty research and to keep senior scholars in the field. It was instrumental in the preparation of joint publications and other means of distributing the results of research, and by organizing seminars and offering courses on poverty-related issues.
