World Social Science Fellows Programme
ANNOUNCEMENT: CROP is pleased to announce that it will collaborate with ISSC and IHDP to organise the first series of World Social Science (WSS) Seminars.
WSS Seminars will be at the core of the World Social Science Fellows Programme. They will last up to 14 days and will involve up to 20 World Social Science Fellows. The seminars will address topics of strong scientific and social significance – globally but with particular relevance for developing countries.
The specific focus and format for each WSS Seminar will vary, but seminars will include:
- A module aimed at providing a state-of-the-art review of the field of study in question.
- A research visioning module aimed at identifying the 5 to 10 most important and urgent research questions to be addressed in the field in the following decade
- A module aimed at generating concrete research ideas and developing outlines for research proposals in response to the research questions identified
- A module devoted to compiling a collection of materials and ideas that can be used as resources for the later development of Masters/PhD level courses on the field of study addressed by the seminar
- A module introducing fellows to the international science policymaking landscape
WSS seminars will expose fellows to the best and latest inter-disciplinary, comparative thinking in new and pressing topics. They will also encourage critical reflection on the assumptions and paradigms in the field of the topic, how they vary across cultures, and will draw on the strengths and support of the ISSC's members and scientific programmes like CROP and International Human Dimensions Programme on Global Environment Change (IHDP).
Each seminar will be convened by pairs of senior social scientists. They will also involve the participation of global social science 'leaders,' local policy practitioners, funders, and community activists whose work is related to the topic tackled by the Seminar.
