Launch of International Science Council (ISC)

Launch of International Science Council (ISC)

LIVESTREAM: the founding of ISC will be celebrated with a Science Day.

5 July 2018 (09.00-18.00 CEST)

The International Social Science Council (ISSC) has merged with the International Council for Science (ICSU) to form the International Science Council (ISC), creating a single unified council to be the global voice for all the sciences.

ISC is a NGO with a global membership that brings together 40 international scientific unions and associations and over 140 national and regional scientific organizations including academies and research councils. It is the only international NGO bringing together the natural and social sciences and the largest global science organization of its kind.

The founding of ISC will be celebrated with a Science Day at the Maison des Océans in Paris, featuring leading scientists showcasing the range of issues the new organization will be working on.

The programme includes addresses by high-level representatives of the French government and the United Nations, as well as by the first President of the International Science Council.

The focus is on the new Council's vision of science as a global public good, and how to achieve that goal.
