La liberalización económica en Paraguay y su efecto sobre las mujeres
Verónica SERAFINI GEORGHEGAN. CLACSO-CROP Series. CLACSO. Buenos Aires, December 2008.
This book looks at the effects of (economic) liberalization with respect to income among women in Paraguay with the objective to contribute to the gender debate from an economic perspective. Sectors which are promoting economic liberalization argues that it – accompanied by economic growth and the importation of new technologies – increases the levels of human capital and income, thereby reducing poverty. However, empirical evidence show that this alleged link is not so easy to prove. Economic liberalization made in a society of enormous inequalities and without structural and compensatory polices seems rather to widen the gap between the rich and the poor. In the case of Paraguay, increased unemployment, poverty and migrations to cities were some of the results of economic liberalization adopted. This work seeks to contribute with proposals for a public agenda in the field of political, social and gender economy in the region.
