Professor Tony Atkinson (1944-2017)

Professor Tony Atkinson (1944-2017)

In remembrance of Professor Tony Atkinson

Former CROP Scientific Committee member, Sir Anthony Atkinson, a distinguished economist who pioneered the study of changes in the distribution of wealth and income, died on Sunday 1 January 2017, in Oxford, England, aged 72.

The members of the Comparative Research Programme on Poverty regret the loss of a long-standing and active member of the CROP network who served on the programme's Scientific Committee from the start in 1993 until 2000.  He will be remembered for his theoretical and empirical breakthroughs, and his indefatigable dedication to ensure that inequality is given the attention that it deserves.

For more information about Tony Atkinson and his work on poverty and inequality, please see his personal website.
