Hilary Silver

Professor in Urban Studies, Sociology and Public Policy / Brown University, USA

Hilary Silver has a PhD in Sociology from Columbia University and is a longstanding affiliate of the Center for European Studies at Harvard.

She served as Editor of the urban sociological journal, City & Community, and as Director of the Urban Studies Program at Brown University. Hilary Silver is currently consulting for the United Nations, Department of Economic and Social Affairs, in the run-up to the Sustainable Development Goals.  Previously she has consulted on social exclusion, poverty and inequality for theInternational Labour Organization, World Bank, IADB, UNDP, Brookings Institution, US Office of Personnel Management, and other agencies. She is editing a volume, Comparing Cities, and studying policies to promote social inclusion in the United States and abroad.
