Poverty and Politics in Latin America by Enrique Dussel, UAM, Mexico
Venue: Bergen International Resource Centre, UiB Global, Jekteviksbakken 31
As a world-leading philosopher, Prof. Dussel's principal contribution has been to outline a liberating philosophy drawing upon inspiration from liberation theology and the Latin American reality. Highly critical of European ethnocentrism he states that democracy is “not Greek, much less European and not at all liberal." With respect to the poor he has vigorously argued that it is imperative to look at the poor (not only poverty as such) and accompany them as subjects and as persons in this world and in the Kingdom.
